Trends for 2008

PURPLE – Regal and suitable for many looks , from lavender to deep plum, this colour can be rich and sophisticated, paired with rich mushroom tones, or charcoal grays. Pantone has named their colour ‘Blue Iris’(Pantone 18-3943) as the 2008 Colour of the year, so this purple blue hue is sure to be popping up in fashion and design.

BLACK – Black is back , a big theme we saw at the Interior Design Show in Toronto: high gloss finishes on traditional show wood chairs, glittering black glass tiles and chandeliers, and glossy black ceramic vases and stools. Many new wallpapers are being shown in graphic black and white geometric prints and oversized florals on a black background.

GRAY – We saw this last year, and the trend of gray continues, dubbed by some magazines and designers as ‘the new taupe’. Gray works beautifully with jewel tones, and a warm gray is a fresh alternative to taupe for those who enjoy neutral hues.
